USERRA Guidance: Critical Issues and Tips for Those Employing Servicemembers

USERRA Guidance: Critical Issues and Tips for Those Employing Servicemembers

by | Feb 14, 2017

To educate and inform servicemembers and their civilian employers, I prepared a summary of the Uniformed Services Employment and Reemployment Rights Act of 1994 (“USERRA”) for a Continuing Legal Education course I presented on November 3, 2016. You can download this article here. My a .pdf copy of my PowerPoint presentation is here.

This CLE was focused on employment law attorneys, whether they advise businesses on how to comply with USERRA or represent servicemembers regarding their civilian employment. The course covered many issues that I have encountered as a Volunteer Ombudsman with the Department of Defense, Employer Support of the Guard and Reserve (“ESGR”) program.

If you are an employment law attorney, HR professional, or a small business owner struggling to comply with USERRA, I encourage you to download and review this article. If you have additional questions or concerns regarding USERRA compliance, please feel free to contact me, your local ESGR representatives, or our national ESGR staff. ESGR is available to assist servicemembers and their civilian employers.
